On March 4, 2025, to mark World Obesity Day, Elia Biganzoli participated in the press conference presenting the European project Movement Pills – Pillole di Movimento, held at Palazzo Marino, the seat of the Municipality of Milan.
During the event, Biganzoli emphasized the importance of physical activity as a therapeutic complement in chronic diseases, highlighting how exercise has become a key element in treatment protocols, particularly in oncology. He also called for greater engagement from local administrations in promoting active lifestyles, through the expansion of green spaces and bike lanes that encourage the population’s daily movement.
Movement Pills is an initiative promoted by UISP (Unione Italiana Sport per Tutti) and supported by the Municipality of Milan, aiming to combat sedentary lifestyles and promote healthy living. The project involves the free distribution, in 12 Italian cities, of symbolic packages of “movement pills” at participating pharmacies. Instead of medications, the packages contain an informational leaflet offering two months of free physical activity in affiliated sports facilities and gyms. The initiative primarily targets sedentary adults, with a particular focus on those over 60, and aims to make physical activity accessible to everyone, breaking down economic and social barriers.
The project, funded by the European Community, involves eight European countries: Italy, Denmark, Belgium, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Poland, and Estonia. In Italy, participating cities include Milan, Turin, Perugia, Bolzano, Agrigento, Ascoli Piceno, Foggia-Manfredonia, Grosseto, Reggio Emilia, Padua, Rimini, and Matera.
