The Centennial Celebrations of the University of Milan are reaching a significant milestone with the fourth and final grand event titled “Come raccontare la bellezza” (“How to Narrate Beauty”). On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 6:30 PM, the Ca’ Granda, the university’s main headquarters, will transform into the stage for an immersive experience, with beauty as the undisputed protagonist.
Beauty is a universal concept that spans cultures, eras, and disciplines, evoking deep emotions and inspiring creativity and innovation. It has the power to elevate the human spirit, connect people through shared experiences, and stimulate critical thinking and imagination. This event will explore beauty across scientific and humanistic disciplines, technological innovations, and artistic expressions. We will reflect on how beauty can guide us towards a more harmonious future, enabling us to find meaning and magnificence in the details of everyday life.
The event will begin with a musical performance by Saturnino, the renowned musician and bassist, setting the tone for the evening through his notes. Following this, Elio Franzini, Rector of the University of Milan, will deliver welcoming remarks, sharing some of the most significant episodes in the university’s history. Valentina Bollati, a professor at the University of Milan, will discuss the fusion of beauty and innovation, exploring how beauty inspires and intertwines with technological and scientific advancements.
One of the evening’s highlights will be a dialogue with the celebrated dancer Roberto Bolle, who will share insights into the intrinsic beauty of dance and body movement. The event will conclude with reflections from Marina Brambilla, the newly elected Rector of the University of Milan, on the importance of beauty in the future academic and cultural context. The evening will be hosted by Massimiliano Finazzer Flory, Artistic Director of the University’s Centennial Celebrations.
After the presentations in the Aula Magna, the Cortile d’Onore will come alive with a special toast marking the end of the Centennial Celebrations. The evening will continue with an aperitivo accompanied by a live performance from Saturnino, offering a convivial moment to celebrate this important milestone. Attendees will enjoy the beauty of the university’s artistic heritage, accompanied by the evocative sounds of music, in a festive atmosphere that engages both the academic community and the public.
